A schoolgirl has been left scarred after being attacked with a crowbar and a sledgehammer by two masked men who burst into her home.
Shannon James, 16, underwent plastic surgery and was left with nerve damage in the wake of the attack on her and her mother Rebecca, 42.
The A-level student also needs to take sleeping pills after being left traumatised after the men burst into the £350,000 property in Ashington, near Horsham, West Sussex, posing as police officers.

Mandy Fowell, 49, died after a large brick shed gave way at her £500,000 home in Abridge, Essex, during the recent fierce storms.
Ms Fowell's partner, who was in the house at the time, called the emergency services and she was treated by paramedics for leg injuries.

Nigerian man who stabbed his wife while she slept jailed for 12 years

A Nigerian businessman has been jailed for 12 years after he was found guilty of stabbing his wife as she slept in their home. Oluwabusayo Abegunde, 38, (pictured above) stabbed his wife repeatedly with a kitchen knife after he went through her phone and discovered she was seeing someone else.

Toba Falode didn't die in a car accident, he was pushed from a 17 storey building

The story that was put in the press was that Toba Falode, the only son of iconic sports journalist Aisha Falode died in a car accident but that's not how he died. According to a close family friend I spoke with, Toba, a student of SAE Institute in Dubai, was pushed from a 17-storey building by an Arab guy last week. Heard he held on to the railings for a few minutes after he was pushed, but eventually fell. The Dubai police have yet to arrest anyone for his murder. More details later...

'I feel more feminine': Sikh teaching assistant with condition causing excessive hair grows beard

A 23-year-old woman with a condition causing excessive hair development has revealed that growing a beard makes her feel more feminine.
Harnaam Kaur, of Slough, Berkshire, suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome - and a beard first started to appear on her face aged just 11.
The hair quickly spread to her chest and arms, and the condition made her the victim of taunts at school and on the street. She even received death threats from strangers over the internet.
But Miss Kaur has now decided to stop cutting her hair after being baptised as a Sikh - a religion in which cutting body hair is forbidden.
She said: ‘I would never ever go back now and remove my facial hair because it's the way God made me and I'm happy with the way I am.
'I feel more feminine, more sexy and I think I look it too. I've learned to love myself for who I am nothing can shake me now.’
During her early teens, Miss Kaur was so ashamed of her beard that she waxed twice a week, and also tried bleaching and shaving.
But the hair became thicker and spread - with Miss Kaur feeling so self-conscious that she refused to leave her house. She even began self-harming and she considered suicide.
She said: ‘I got bullied badly - at school I was called a “beardo” and things like “shemale” and “sheman”. I can laugh about it now, but back then it affected me so badly that I began to self-harm because it felt better than all the abuse I was getting.
‘I'd talk to people with a hand over my face and I wore baggy, tomboy clothes to cover up the hair on my chest and arms.
‘I didn't want to go outside my house because I couldn't take the stares from strangers so I'd lock myself in my room. It got so bad that I just didn't want to live anymore.’
